Make an rpg with gamemaker studio 21/26/2024 In Godot, a scene is a collection of elements like sprites, sounds, and or scripts. Godot's approach to game architecture is unique in that everything is divided into scenes-but likely not the kind of "scene" you're thinking of. The 2D aspect of this free game maker was carefully designed from the start, which means better performance, fewer bugs, and a cleaner overall workflow. I'm not saying don't do interesting stuff, just make sure you plan out what's important first because adding it later might mean lots of work.Įdit: And yeah, as others mentioned if this is your first project outside of tutorials, start very small and focus on one mechanic you'll need like a simple turn based grid thing like battleship.Like Unity, the Godot engine supports the creation of both 2D and 3D games. Stuff like trying to include multi-tile units can be a big headache if you didn't plan for it in advance. On big thing to keep in mind is that seemingly small changes to the way things work can quickly make matters more difficult to code. If I'm not mistaken, there are some assets on the store designed for grid of hex based games, picking up one of those may be a big help, though you can probably work that part out with ds_grids and some tinkering. I guess my biggest advice is just to plan it out carefully from the start and try to keep scope small. I'll probably go back to it eventually to retry making what it was turning into. I spent about a year on one though it slowly morphed into something totally different(more of Darkest Dungeon thing with kind of a board game puzzle-like combat system) and eventually got shelved for a less ambitious project.
